texas v. ou

not much to say about this game. bomar was obviuosly over-matched by the texas defense.

and that texas passing game, downfield! unbelievable.

some concerns from the game:

kick-offs and coverage are still not great.

selvin young needs to duct-tape the football to his arm and just live with it for the next 7 days.

and where are all the penalties coming from.

Texas needs to clean it up to compete with the USCs and VaTechs of the world. It looks like Texas Tech is the only serious obstacle on the way to an undefeated season. now i'll just cross my fingers and hope for vatech, georgia, bama, florida st., and even penn st. to lose a game along the way.

I'm hoping the same, for losses by all those ahead. Of course, my worry is that a one-loss Miami will stay ahead of a no-loss Penn State. I know I'm putting the cart before the horse there, but at this point, unless my boys beat themselves with turnovers, I don't think there's anyone left on the schedule who will rise up and beat them.

I don't think Texas will pay the price for its sloppy play until, at the earliest, the Texas Tech game, and then the Big 12 champ. game, assuming Colorado makes it. Colorado punished A&M, and I think would be the only team to actually capitalize on the Longhorns mistakes.

texas has got colorado at home this week.

of course, when colorado beat texas in big 12 championship game, texas had beaten colorado handily earlier in the season. this is a different texas team. will not happen again.

well, let's look at what each undefeated team has accomplished:

USC - beat AZ St & demolished Oregon on the road
Va Tech - most impressive victory was over unranked Georgia Tech; struggled mightily on the road against NC State
Texas - squeaked by Ohio State on the road
FSU - one point victory over Miami at home, beat BC on the road, struggled against Wake Forest
Georgia - beat Tenn on the road, nearly lost to South Carolina at home
Alabama - destroyed Florida at home, unimpressive victories over Southern Miss and Arkansas
Penn State - beat Ohio State at home, nearly lost to Northwestern
UCLA - beat Cal at home, nearly lost to Washington
Texas Tech - beat Nebraska on the road

based on what teams have done on the football field, it would seem that USC is clearly #1. Texas Tech (against Nebraska), Penn State (against Northwestern), Georgia (against South Carolina), FSU (against Miami), Va Tech (against NC State), Texas (against Ohio State) and UCLA (against Washington) all pulled out victory from the jaws of defeat (especially Texas Tech). Alabama has a victory that probably would have been a loss had they lost Tyrone Prothro earlier in the year (Southern Miss) but the fact of the matter is that TP did make the catch of the year that turned the tide, so to speak, in that game (which resulted in a comfortable victory for the Tide). Alabama and USC are the only two undefeated teams that have not been taken to the wire.

Thus, USC #1 and Alabama #2 in my book right now (and yes, I went to Alabama)...
